Information technology is becoming even more central to competitive advantage than in the past and CIOs are increasingly expected to derive maximum innovation and strategic value from the IT function. The CIO role continues to evolve as technologies mature and businesses move from cost control to growth and innovation. The new IT leader must show an outstanding leadership and management of the technology function, as well as act as a peer to the board, guiding the business and IT strategy of the company.
European CIOs are currently investing in innovative solutions that will positively impact the bottom line and solution providers need to position themselves at those precise IT investment hot-spots in order to reap the benefits. CIOs will respond and commit to those solution providers who can link tangible cost benefits with the solutions they provide. In the coming year, companies will be working to enhance the operational performance of existing IT investments and to lower costs by streamlining business processes. They will be looking at ways to digest, reinvent and maximise their IT infrastructure: how to create agility and reactivity in their business processes, how to develop a strategy which allows technology to intelligently track and compliment economic forces, how to profit from technologies which maximise the customer relationship.
