QS-APPLE shines at the start of its great annual journey round Asia
As Asian universities rapidly internationalise their campuses, a new strand of professionalism is developing amongst their administrators and academics. New challenges have arisen in creating international exchange and study abroad programs, attracting full-time international students, providing suitable study programs for them, introducing new languages of instruction, ensuring a beneficial study experience, and much more.
Also a major issue of development is the quest for international recognition and status - building a path to inform the world at large that the world-class teaching and research that Asian students enjoy in many of their universities is also available to overseas students and academics.
Until 2005, no regular forum for discussion of these vital matters existed in the Asia region when the QS Asia Pacific Professional Leaders in Education Annual Conference - QS-APPLE - filled that gap with its first highly successful meeting in Singapore in August of that year. The second QS-APPLE was again held in the refined surroundings of Singapore's Nanyang Technological University in 2006.
After these two years in Singapore, QS-APPLE energetically embarked on its epic round-Asia journey with a Conference in Hong Kong, partnered by Hong Kong Baptist University, that its delegates will remember for its vibrancy, quality and variety as well as its major contribution to their knowledge and international development.
At the final count, 510 individual participants from 46 countries enjoyed 63 parallel presentations given by almost 100 speakers, and two plenary sessions with inspiring speakers from Hong Kong, USA, Malaysia, Korea and UK. They loved the atmosphere and the warmth and excitement of the interaction, as well as the stimulating and informative content of the presentations. Activity in the The Exhibition, which featured 34 major institutions and organisations, was brisk, and sponsors and advertisers were enthusiastic about the exposure and impact they gained.
4th QS-APPLE, 9 - 11 July 2008 - Seoul, Korea, in partnership with Yonsei University
We now look forward to the next QS-APPLE which will be staged in partnership with Yonsei University in Seoul from 9 -11 July 2008. Founded in 1885 and one of Korea's top universities, Yonsei's mission is to educate leaders who will contribute to humanity in the spirit of truth and freedom. Yonsei's main campus has a spacious, picturesque and natural setting that is located minutes away from the economic, political, and cultural centres of Seoul's metropolitan downtown.
