Disease Management - Overcoming Legal Compliance Hurdles
A Webinar & Audio Conference with John R. Hickman, Partner and Ashley Gillihan, Partner, Alston & Bird LLP
Wednesday, April 16th, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Eastern

Please join us on Wednesday, April 16th at 1PM Eastern to learn about how best to overcome legal compliance issues with disease management. Disease management may be the "final frontier" in cost control, yet many employers and third party administrators have overlooked the significant legal compliance issues that may arise in connection with implementing a successful disease management program. Hidden compliance costs associated with disease management "carrots" and "sticks" need to be considered.

Attendees of this session will be able to identify and avoid potential compliance traps under:
• HIPAA's non-discrimination and wellness rules
• HIPAA's privacy requirements
• The American With Disabilities Act
• COBRA health care continuation requirements
• Tax withholding and reporting requirements
The rules do not prevent the establishment of wellness and disease management programs. They simply create hurdles which require sufficient knowledge in order to effectively navigate around or over such hurdles. Thus, the learning objectives are to identify and address the legal compliance issues so that legal compliance problems can be avoided and/or to identify creative solutions in the event legal compliance problems already exist.
