The pharmaceutical industry has witnessed the rapid growth in the utilization of Data Monitoring Committees to acquire unbiased, independent analysis throughout the clinical trial process, regarding the trials’ processes, integrity and particularly, safety.
Data Monitoring Committees (DMCs) provide the opportunity for a group of independent experts and specialists to analyze in real time ongoing clinical data in order to make informed assessments as to whether trials should continue, be modified or be terminated before its completion.
Pharma companies are increasingly realizing that utilizing DMCs in clinical trials provides protection both to the company — protecting against loss of time and capital — while at the same time preventing unnecessary risks to participants in the trials.
