Ninety per cent of the buildings in the UK which will be standing in the year 2050 are already built. Therefore if we are to achieve the target of reducing carbon emissions from our buildings by 80% by 2050, refurbishment of our existing buildings – as opposed to stringent regulations on new-builds – is the only solution.

IMechE has therefore organised this one-day seminar to examine the challenge of maintaining and improving the existing stock of buildings and their surrounding areas through refurbishment, in order to reduce carbon footprints and meet statutory requirements.

With presentations from leading companies in the sustainable refurbishment industry, as well as panel discussions and networking
opportunities, this event will provide a comprehensive guide to the refurbishment and development of existing buildings.

Benefits of attendance:

• Hear refurbishment case studies from Atkins, Arup and IMechE
• Analyse ‘sustainability assessment techniques’ for existing building stock
• Debate the impact of climate change on future refurbishment
• Examine the latest energy conservation techniques and strategies
• Discuss the Carbon Vision Project, including outcomes for non-domestic buildings
• Meet individuals involved in sustainable refurbishment projects of all sizes
• Discuss the latest practices in reducing the carbon footprints of buildings
• Understand the latest statutory requirements and targets which apply (or will apply) to your business
