| Description |
The purpose of this conference is to present professional counselors, social workers, educators, law enforcement officials, victim advocates, attorneys, administrators and policymakers with the most up-to-date and innovative information available regarding the clinical treatment, supervision and management of juvenile sex offenders. In keeping with the Balanced and Restorative Justice Philosophy of the Juvenile Justice System, the material presented throughout this conference will focus on the importance of collaboration amongst the various professionals working with this client population. Professionals will have the opportunity to explore the pivotal and unique roles of the victim, family, and community in the healing process.
It is anticipated that participants will come to recognize that the safety and well-being of victims is fundamental in sex offender management. As such, collaboration among involved professionals is essential. Often times, it appears as those these professionals are working towards opposite goals when, in fact, they are working towards the same: accountability to the victim, enhancement of community safety and the development of competencies in the juvenile offender. It is the primacy of these goals that often differ amongst professions.
The information and material presented to participants throughout this conference will address various treatment, supervision and maintenance interventions for the juvenile sex offender. At the same time, participants will discover that the most effective and successful interventions are those which prioritize the needs of direct and indirect victims.
