The Department of Theology and Religion of Durham University will be hosting a conference for research postgraduates across the UK on January 13-14, 2009. The theme is interdisciplinarity in the study of Theology and Religion, a term used constantly in the academic world, yet one which requires further elaboration. More and more, models of scholarship are shifting from those of the lone scholar at the desk to group projects and cross-disciplinary research. Interdisciplinarity is at the heart of this development and suggests itself as the future of scholarship. It is, therefore, of particular relevance and interest to postgraduates working on the cutting edge of theology and religious studies.
This conference aims to bring together postgraduates with established scholars to reflect on what interdisciplinarity has entailed, what it means in current research, and what directions it may take in the future. The conference includes a keynote address by the Rev. Prof. Sarah Coakley entitled ‘Knots and Nots’, two workshops, and presentations of papers.
