The current programmatic approach to drug development has not been keeping pace with advances in science and medicine. In an effort to modernize clinical research, the FDA has encouraged the pharmaceutical industry to shift from empirical to quantitative evaluation in the early stages of research. In response, many companies have worked to implement PK/PD modeling techniques into their development process, but have not yet realized the benefits of a more widespread application, incorporating in silico, in vitro, in vivo, and genomic modeling as well.

The adoption of model based drug development has been encouraged by both the FDA and PhRMA as a way to reduce the costs and time commitment of drug development by up to 50%. This two day conference brings together industry leaders to discuss new techniques to expand the use of modeling in bridging the gap between discovery and regulated research.
