Description The aim of the conference is to elicit a wide range of academic ideas and perspectives on the portrayal of conflict in British literature and culture from the Anglo-Saxon period to the present day. The conference participants are invited to present papers focusing on the public or private perception of the grandeur, as well as the horrors of war.
As the title suggests, the topics under discussion may vary from the heroic ideal inherent in the Anglo-Saxon epics, through Shakespeare’s histories and the poetry of the Great War as experienced by the combatants to contemporary voices of protest against man’s inhumanity to man.
