The organizing committee feels honored to invite you to participate in the first ever Symposium being held in this region for promotion of Deceased Organ Donation. As you are all aware, with the present success of organ transplant, the demand for organs is increasing at a rapid pace. It is estimated that over 1,00,000 new patients with end stage kidney disease are diagnosed in India every year. Majority of these patients succumb to the disease either because of not being able to afford treatment or due to lack of living donors. Whereas the developed countries have a well developed Deceased organ donation programme to cater to needs of their citizens, it has failed to take off in a significant manner in our country except in a selected pockets. Even after more than decade of legal acceptance of brain death as per THOA 1994, the total number organs procured from these donors remain abysmally low.
The present symposium plans to touch on every aspect of Deceased organ donation including medical, social and legal issues. We have invited distinguished faculty from within the country who have established successful deceased organ donation programmes at the few centers in India and other esteemed speakers who can guide the participants to the next revolution in the field of organ transplantation in India and bring this wonderful treatment to the doorstep of everyone. This activity should be of immense benefit for the doctors as well as paramedics involved in the field of organ transplantation ranging from the transplant surgeons, nephrologists, urologists, hepatobiliary surgeons, intensivists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, hospital administrators, policymakers etc.
We hope that all participants would enjoy the excellent weather prevalent in the month of November in Chandigarh and savor the hospitality provided by the organizing team.
With warm regards,
