Conference for Yunnan Provincial Library’s 100th Anniversary

November 16-17, 2009, Kunming, China

Yunnan, the most culturally diverse province in China, has
developed its unique regional culture of multiplicity. The long history of
interactions among different ethnic minorities has cumulated rich information
resources. Since its establishment a hundred years ago, Yunnan Province Library
has been striving in describing, preserving, and providing access to the
resources. In the event of the first centennial celebration, Yunnan Provincial
Library is planning an international conference with the theme of
“building an information society of cultural and ethnic

The goal of the conference is to bring together librarians,
information engineers, educators as well as experts and professionals in other
fields, from both China and aboard, to exchange ideas and share research
findings about multiethnic culture, resource development, information sharing,
etc. The conference provides a forum for scholars from different traditions and
backgrounds to share their views and perspectives on how to preserve and
promote the traditional culture of ethnic minorities in a multilevel,
multicultural, and multiethnic information society. The conference will
generate valuable ideas for advancing services to disadvantaged social groups
and rural developments in the province.

Suggested Topics

The conference will cover a broad range of topics on multiethnic culture and
information society. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  1. Roles of public libraries
    in multilevel, multicultural, and multiethnic information society,

  2. Development of multiethnic
    culture and resources,

  3. Diversity of ethnic
    culture and resources,

  4. Roles of ethnic minority
    culture in public information services,

  5. Cultural and information
    resources in socio-economic developments.

Categories & Submission

The conference calls for contributions in three categories:
(a) full papers, (b) presentations, and (c) poster session articles. Full
papers will be arranged for presentation at the conference and be published in the
conference proceedings. For presentations, only the abstracts will be published
in the conference proceedings. Poster session articles will be arranged for
display and listed as bibliographic entries (without abstracts) in the
conference proceedings.

Regardless of submission categories, interested authors are
asked to submit an abstract of no more than 300 words in length, in both
English and Chinese, for initial consideration. Abstract must be prepared in
Microsoft Word and submitted as attachment to an email message sent to href=""> In the Word
document, please clearly indicate the title, author(s), affiliation, contact
information (telephone number and email address), and which category the submission
is intended for. In case of multiple authors, please indicate which author is
the contact person.

All submissions must be original, unpublished, and not being
submitted to other publishing avenues. Submission may not overlap substantially
with any work already published in any form or presented in other conferences.
Submission may be preliminary research, theoretical analysis, report of
practical projects, or investigation of current practices. All submissions will
be anonymously refereed.

Full Paper Requirements

Full paper may be no more than 6000 words in length,
excluding references and appendices. Manuscript should be double spaced and
properly formatted on letter-sized pages, with 1 inch top/bottom and left/right
margins. English text should use 12-point Times New Roman or equivalent font
size and style, and Chinese text should use category-5 Kai Ti font, using
GB-2312 character coding.

The submitted manuscript should include a cover page listing
the title, author(s), affiliation, and contact information, followed by
English/Chinese versions of the abstract.

Full papers may only be submitted in electronic form, and no
hardcopy is accepted. Acceptable file format is limited to Microsoft Word.
