Reduction in emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and adaptation to climate change has become an important objective of economic and environmental strategies in many countries, especially after the Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), UNFCCC and its Kyoto Protocol and the IPCC Assessment Reports. It is realized that several activities and sources, including non-renewable energy exploration and exploitation, contribute to the increase in concentrations of Greenhouse Gases in the atmosphere leading to global climate change. Therefore research, development, demonstration and use of different kinds of clean energy sources are very important and are supported by several organizations all over the world. There is a clear need to present and discuss problems related to energy, renewable energy and climate change in the Mediterranean region.
