The role of the human capital in today’s organization recently has been going into a revolutionary phase. As the workplace moves to a service and information economy, savvy organizations are increasingly becoming aware that acquiring and sustaining their human capital is very critical for their survival.
At this same time the workforce is in a state of continuous evolution. The technological revolution, the influence of the media and the impact of globalization have resulted in dramatic social, political, and economic changes world-wide. New demographic patterns are taking shape in the workplace. For instance, the labor force is becoming more diverse than ever before, the percentage of college graduates seeking jobs is growing considerably and the growing role of Women in the work place
Organizations need to understand that to remain competitive, they need to know how to obtain and retain talent and how to invest in and manage their human capital. They also need to know how to use technology in optimizing their people’s knowledge and skills. Furthermore, both organizations and the academic community need to establish a mutually beneficial relationship an interdependent relationship that brings together the business world and the scientific and cultural community engaged in higher education and research.
As an association that focuses on the human resource, ASHRM has adopted this theme to reflect the significance of the human capital in today’s business, technology, and academia.
