Description Geospatial Technology is one of the three emerging technologies in the 21st century. Driven by societal and economical needs, Earth observation and remote sensing techniques are now in the frontiers of the geospatial technology, and have received an increasing interest in the academic, government, industries, and beyond. China is a rapidly evolving nation in space and earth observation technologies. Since the 1980s, a great progress has been made in optical, micro-wave, and hyperspectral remote sensing. Dramatic changes in land use and land cover have occurred in China due to rapid economic growth and urbanization over the past 30 years. Therefore, remote sensing of land use/land cover and human settlements is attracting great attention in recent years. It is worthy to note that China has one of the largest research teams in remote sensing in the world, with researchers distributed largely in government agencies, universities, research institutes, and private sectors.

This workshop serves three purposes: (1) To build a platform for academic exchanges among researchers from within- and outside-China with interests in Earth observation and remote sensing applications; (2) To promote remote sensing and other geospatial technology researches in China and Asia; and (3) To provide an opportunity for discussing potential international collaboration and cooperation activities for researchers with similar interests.
