The Society of Black Academic Surgeons (SBAS) is an academic group committed to stimulate academic excellence among its members. The group encourages and supports professional development of black surgical residents and faculty and attempts to recruit the best
medical students into surgical careers.
Membership in SBAS is open to any individual who occupiesa faculty position in a university department of surgery or its affiliated hospitals, a freestanding surgical residency
program, an investigator or teacher in an academic department of surgery or an ACGMe-approved surgery program, or an individual in a surgical specialty such as neurosurgery, orthopedics, urology, otorhinolaryngology,
and plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Coordinated by the Office of Professional Staff Affairs and the Office of Diversity at Cleveland Clinic, the 18th Annual Symposium of the Society of Black Academic Surgeons will
be hosted at the InterContinental Hotel and Bank of America Conference Center. It is located on the campus of Cleveland Clinic in University Circle along Cleveland’s Historic euclid Corridor. The symposium will feature basic science and clinical research resentations by preeminent surgeons, scientists, residents, and fellows. There will be interactive workshops and symposiums.
