Description Course Description

A practical 3-day log workshop will illustrate log responses to rocks and their fluids. Once these simple relationships (common throughout the world) are understood, you can recognize permeability, hydrocarbons and identify rock and fluid types easily. The session will also include illustrated techniques for recognizing log validity. Participants are encouraged to bring their own logs to complement existing real-life case studies. A complete set of course materials and a light lunch are included.

Course fees include 5% GST.

Who Should Attend

Professionals in drilling, production, geosciences and completion technology utilize this program. This practical class will be a good review for those who have had log applications in the past and a good introduction for those who have had little application of logs before.

Topics covered

• Detection of permeability and sale water from resistivity logs
• Fluid and rock type identification from “porosity” logs
• New Technology – its value and limitations
• Hydrocarbon identification and water saturation calculations
• Gas and shale effects on logs
• Using DST, cuttings and offset production to validate logs
• Depth control, calibrations and offset logs
• Individual log checks and limitations
