Description Need for the Course:

Few educational opportunities for specialized training in Ergonomics exist for Medical Professionals in India, especially through workshops or short term courses, which do not require professionals to undertake 2 year or 3 year full-time courses in Ergonomics.

With rapidly increasing industrialisation in India, especially in the sectors of Information Technology and IT Enabled Services, Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders are spiraling upwards. Preliminary results of RECOUP’s ongoing study of over 30,000 Indian IT professionals (2001-2008) found that 75% reported musculoskeletal symptoms related to work; 55% got injured within a year of starting their first job.

There is an acute shortage of qualified and experienced Ergonomics Professionals in India for providing consultancy to the Industry.

The overall medical care for clients with Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders will be enhanced if the medical professionals who treat them are also trained in Ergonomics.

Course Objectives:

Understand the pathogenesis and risk factors for work related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSD).

Further their knowledge of the biomechanical, anatomical as well as physiological issues involved.

Undertake risk assessments for these disorders in work situations.

Understand prevention strategies and be able to implement the same.

Understand the current concepts in diagnosis and medical management of WRMSD

Participants:

Administrators, facility managers, employees, ergonomists, occupational health and safety personnel, physical and occupational therapists, and physicians

Format:

This conference will employ a unique case discussion format of assessment ad management of Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders. The conference will only deal with the practical aspects of the ergonomic assessment and management that professionals can adopt in their daily clinical practice.
