Research Infrastructures address a huge amount of scientific and technological installations scattered on Europe and overseas (PARANA-Chile, Polar Stations, etc). All scientific domains are concerned : physics (collision accelerators, particles detectors), matter science (Synchrotron, Neutrons-Muons reactors), environment (aircraft, CO2 emission stations, oceanographic vessels, sea-floor observatories), life sciences (neurosciences, clinical platform, biodiversity data banks), social sciences (human data bank), supercomputing (GRID systems, massive parallel computers), energy (solar thermal energy stations, fusion power plants, nuclear fission reactors) and engineering (mega test-beds in aeronautics, thermics, acoustics, naval engineering, etc). The total of European installations represent a total cost of about 200BEuros of value at construction. But most of them are obsolet and need a serious refurbishment, new facilities dedicated to future scientific,energy or ecnomical challenges are requested by the scientific communities. It's the reason why in 2006 the ESFRI (European Strategic Forum on Research Infrastructures) has supported the development of 35 new plants for a total value of 14BEuros until 2020. This Road-Map is under re-examination and the revised version will be presented at the ECRI2008 Conference in Versailles.
