Identity is a contemporary problematic approached almost everywhere in the world as postmodernism, regional integration, and globalization bring new challenges to national identities. We speak more and more about the identity crisis at various levels and multiple explanations, causes and implications were identified.
In this context, the Centre for Political Analysis launches a debate regarding the issue of Romanian identity in the European context, trying to answer questions like: Who are we, Romanians? What is the substance of our national identity? What connects or singles us out among European nations? What can Europe offer us on a long term and what can we offer Europe? Are Romania and Europe as a whole confronting themselves with identity crises, and how can these be surpassed?
Given the topic, we choose a multi and inter-disciplinary approach that results in eight broader topics that supplement two plenary sessions with lectures given by known researchers and activists in the field of (Romanian) identity. The workshops will allow participants to present their own works, to receive and provide comments, and to create networks with peers from other universities/departments.
We encourage graduate students and researchers to apply for one of the following topics:
Historical background and contemporary components of Romanian identity
Identity and religion in the Romanian space
Individual and collective perceptions of identity
Romanian identity reflected in arts and literature
Romanian identity in everyday life
Perception and self-perception of Romanian identity
Minorities’ influence on Romanian identity
Romanian identity in an encompassing Europe
The application dead-line is August 1, 2008. The selection decision will be communicated by August 15. Late applications are not considered.

The organizers cover the accommodation of guests for the entire period of the conference. There is no participation fee.
