The National OH&S Inquiry: Some Legal Observations.
On 4 April, Minister Gillard announced the establishment of a national inquiry into our occupational health and safety laws in order to produce a model law which could be enacted by all of the States and Territories. While much is similar in our crop of safety statutes, many differences are apparent. It is also the case that the procedure for undertaking prosecutions differs amongst the several jurisdictions.
Prof. Ron McCallum, Professor of Labour Law at the University of Sydney. He was the foundation Blake Dawson Waldron Professor in Industrial Law at the University of Sydney from 1993 to 2007.
This was the first named chair for industrial law in Australia, and Ron was the first totally blind person to have been appointed to a full professorship in any field at any Australian or New Zealand university. From 1 July 2002 to 30 September 2007, Professor McCallum served as the Dean of the University of Sydney Law School.
He is also the inaugural President of the Australian Labour Law Association. Ron has written widely in the field of labour law. In 2007, Professor McCallum was admitted as an Officer in the Order of Australia, AO, for his work for the disabled, industrial relations advice to governments and for social justice.
