| Description |
Organised in collaboration with the Biomedical Applications Division of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoM3).
The number of joint replacements has grown dramatically over the past decade. With an increasing and ageing population, this is likely to continue. This one-day event will focus on the mechanical and material considerations of the bearing surfaces used in joint replacement.
The changes in these surfaces have a substantial effect on the long term survival of the implants; this is clearly of major clinical importance. This seminar will look at the development, testing and use of present and future bearing surfaces, and also the influence of the bearing surface on the design of joint replacements.
