Venue ICEBO'08 - 8. International Conference for Enhanced Building Operations
Description The “International Conference for Enhanced Building Operations” - ICEBO’08 - takes place in Berlin from 20 - 22 October 2008. The conference will give over 200 participants an overview of evaluation and certification systems for the enhancement of building energy efficiency. The common systems of LEED Green Building Rating Systems from the European Performance of Building Directive EPBD to the German EnEV will be discussed also.

Current scenarios of climate discussion and major increases in energy costs set the topic energy efficiency of buildings and effects of building automation and building management on planning, building and operation on top of the priority list. Thereby, lifecycle management has gained new significance and offers room of enhancement.

* Innovative Architecture - Advanced Concepts in Design, Construction and HVAC
* Building Automation - Optimizing Energy Efficiency and User Comfort
* Energy Efficient Buildings - Challenge for the Building Industry and ESCOs
* Building Certification - Life Cycle Costs, Sustainability, Productivity
* Green Building Certifications

International well-known experts refer to the topics energy saving, reduction of operation costs, increase of user comfort together with the reduction of negative environmental influences on buildings. They will present new answers and results of research projects.
ICEBO’08 offers investors, project developers, real estate owners and facility managers, architects and engineers, companies and manufacturers from the construction branch as well as scientists, political decision makers and energy suppliers an ideal platform for an intensive, interdisciplinary exchange of experience. ICEBO’08 will be hosted by The Institute of Building and Solar Technology (IGS) of the Technical University of Braunschweig, the Ebert-Ingenieure/Ebert-Consulting Group (EB) and the Energy System Laboratory of the Texas A&M University, USA. The international conference under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) takes place in the conference centre of the ministry in Berlin.

“Property with the label ‘Green’ or ‘Eco’ is gaining ground worldwide. It stands out due to its high standards of energy efficiency and user comfort together with balanced lifecycle costs. Therefore, new developments regarding cladding and system technology present new challenges to all parties involved in implementing sustainable real estate”, emphasizes Prof. Dr.-Ing. M. Norbert Fisch, CEO of The Institute for Building and Solar Technology (IGS). “Worldwide extensive certification methods and minimum standards are introduced to improve building performance. ICEBO’08 is the ideal forum to discuss successful international research work and visions of buildings in the 21st century with the participants of the real estate branch”, assures the expert for energy efficient and climate adapted design.

The new DIN standard EN 15232 of building automation has also picked up the idea of the EnEV, introduced in Germany last year. The standard has subdivided the building automation system into four different energy efficiency classes, including individual user profiles. Many new approaches, standards, guidelines and certification systems are trying to conquer the market and to establish.

“Today, due to engineering progress, building automation has become the heart of every building complex and its IT structures are the nerve system, that controls and monitors the building functions constantly. The optimized coordination of the individual function units builds the prerequisite for operation enhancement”, says Professor Werner Jensch, CEO of Ebert-Ingenieure and the Ebert-Consulting Group. “Monitoring programs such as the software tool OASE developed by Ebert-Ingenieure make it possible to analyze large data volumes in building automation systematically. Like thermography the system identifies extreme values and correlations. The assimilation of these values can reveal hidden saving potentials from 15 to 30 percent.”

In addition to building and operation enhancement the congress also picks up the topic of sustainability. Dynamic influences of cladding and construction methods can be coordinated individually through building automation and lead to a higher level of comfort inside the building. As one of the first congresses ICEBO addressed these topics in 2001 already and has tried since then to force the international knowledge exchange. Therefore, ICEBO ’08 considers itself to be the impetus for innovation for the transfer of research results in terms of practical use.
