| Description |
The aim of the workshop is to mobilize relevant stakeholders with a view toward reinforcing international coordination and cooperation in “Knowledge for Development” by focusing on Science & Technology’s role in the fulfilment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
The workshop is motivated by the fact that many developing countries have not experienced benefits of globalization commensurate with social expectations, given their relative lack of basic and applied science, inadequate physical, human & financial capital coupled with the need to adapt and improve institutions and policies. The workshop also recognizes that expectations generated by trade and financial liberalization policies were excessive either because they were mistakenly estimated or poorly communicated or both. A more integrated global context demands a new degree of institutional and policy and coherence for all countries, where important knowledge gaps regarding Globalization and Governance (G&G) interactions need to be filled through a convincing interdisciplinary framework.
