Power electronics are a key component in the development of technology for all aspects of energy flow, from the generation of power through to the user. Price hikes and increases in consumption have created an environment where energy must be used more efficiently and reliably.

New technologies are a critical enabling factor in improving the efficiency of the power grid and to the connection of future sources, playing a significant role in achieving some of the energy targets. As a result the sector is seeing a significant rise in the use of power converter technologies.

Power electronics 2009: connecting to future energy aims to address the issues facing those involved in the implementation of electronics in the energy industry, connecting renewable energy to the grid, ensuring power quality and reliability, and providing an overview of the UK funding environment.
