SANSFIRE 2009 is only six months away, and we are assembling a program that will surpass all past SANSFIRE events in terms of courses, talks, vendor demonstrations, and opportunities for career advancement. Life is fast-paced and exciting at the Internet Storm Center, which will again provide evening talks and additional content for SANSFIRE. At the end of 2008 we had to cope with yet another Internet Explorer 0-day spread by infected Web sites, and there have been several other incidents that we will be discussing and dissecting during the evening talks.

Unlike previous years, SANSFIRE 2009 will be located in Baltimore, Maryland, and runs from June 13-22. Mark your calendars now and plan to join us in one of the mid-Atlantic's most beautifully restored downtown areas.

Dr. Johannes Ullrich, Ph.D., said in his SANSFIRE 2008 Keynote - Networks under Fire, "As you are reading this slide, everything that preceded it is out of date. A solid foundation in InfoSec basic principles and best practices is necessary to understand new threats quickly. Use the ISC to stay in touch." At SANSFIRE 2009 you will be provided with new information about new threats, and you can acquire the solid foundation in InfoSec that you need to stay on top of them.

You'll also find over thirty of SANS' top-rated courses, from penetration testing and hacker exploits to security management, wireless, forensics, secure coding, and more. Along with the Internet Storm Center, we will have top instructors. Join us to hear: Stephen Northcutt, Johannes Ullrich, Dr. Eric Cole, Rob Lee, Lenny Zeltzer, Joshua Wright, John Strand, Chris Brenton, Kevin Johnson, Scott Moulton, Frank Kim, Jason Fossen, Eric Conrad, David Hoelzer, Stephen Sims, Michael Murr, Jonathan Ham, Bryce Galbraith, Fred Kerby, Mike Poor, and Jeff Frisk.

In addition to SANS courses held during the day, we offer you evening events where you can learn about our new Web application honeynet. Come and discover how to secure your service-oriented architectures and how to deal with new forms of malware. Evening talks at SANSFIRE 2009 will provide extraordinary insights into actual attacks that have taken place over the past year. These special presentations are free to all registered attendees. You'll learn about current threats and how the SANS Internet Storm Center can help you in your fight against these threats. Nothing fosters information sharing and trust building better than face-to-face meetings like SANSFIRE 2009. Most of our volunteer incident handlers will be present at this event, giving you unprecedented opportunities to get to know these fantastic people.

All SANS courses directly address the kinds of incidents reported by the Internet Storm Center in their daily diaries. And, it's a SANS promise that what you learn you'll be able to apply immediately back at the office. Last year's SANSFIRE attendees told us:

"Arm yourself with the latest knowledge to defend against the relentless attacks on your organizations. Learn to defend your assets by recognizing your attacker's tools, techniques, and methods." - Jeff Warson, Symantec

"I plan on attending courses with SANS every time they are in my area!" - Phillip Green, Rubin Brothers of Georgia

"This was very good. There is a reason I come to SANS --- to really learn something. Especially now that you guys do things for the non-technical." - Pet Reddic, DTRA

Our new event location, Hilton Baltimore, is within walking distance of Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Harborplace and the Gallery, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and the National Aquarium in Baltimore. Be sure to save time to see the Baltimore Maritime Museum with the USS Constellation, and of course, Fort McHenry, where the rockets' red glare was immortalized in America's national anthem. Also, nearby you will find shopping, fine dining, and theater. Make your travel and training plans early. Discounted room rates of $197 S/D are available for SANS students through June 13. Plus, register for SANSFIRE 2009 by May 6 and you can receive a $350 tuition fee discount.
