Agri-food experts are meeting for the yearly tasting
Their plates are full with new food trends to discover

Montreal, February 4th, 2009 – From April 1-3, 2009, professionals from the agri-food sector will gather for the SIAL Montréal, the North American Food Tradeshow, at Montreal’s Palais des congrès. Showcasing the latest international food trends, this 6th edition of the Tradeshow will set the table for novelties that we will soon enough discover in our own plates!

It’s the place to be
With more than 550 exhibitors from 40 countries, and over 13,000 agri-food industry professionals from 60 countries, SIAL Montréal will showcase innovations developed at international and national levels, as well as at the provincial level in its “Aliments du Québec pavilion”. During the three-day exhibition, professionals from the agri-food sector, nutrition experts as well as restaurant owners will collect tangible information on nutrition, health, new food trends and innovations. They will thus be better informed to guide consumers in their quests for both a healthy lifestyle and healthy eating habits.

A contest for each taste
Every year, SIAL Montréal organizes many contests during which agri-food industry professionals bring their best products to the table – before they are found on the shelves and in our plates. Firstly, a jury composed of experts will rank many extra virgin olive oils in the Olive d’Or 2009 contest. The experts will render their decision and award prizes on April 1st, 2009 during the Canadian Agri-food Export Gala presided upon by Christine Cheylan, renowned olive expert.

The Trends & Innovations section will propose a selection of new food products that have been on the shelves only since April 2008, and prototypes showcased by exhibitors during the SIAL Montréal 2009 Exhibition. New innovative products will be presented there, as well as new trends for both the North American and international markets. A contest will also be held in this section of the event, and the laureate of the “Trends & Innovations 2009 Grand Award” will be rewarded on April 1st, 2009. The most outstanding innovations will be showcased in the Trends & Innovations section of both SIAL China 2009, in Shanghai, and SIAL 2010, in Paris.

A feast for all senses
Agora Nutrition will transform itself in a space designed to meet with other professionals and share experiences in the guise of conferences that will allow visitors to become aware and better understand the increasingly close connection between the nutrition and health sectors. This year, the round table discussions will bring together North American agri-food industry leaders, nutritionists, producers, journalists and many other guests, on the subject of “Evolution: Educating the public for better eating habits through food service”. The complete conference program will be announced in February.

The Organic Village is designed to help producers make successful business contacts with North American buyers. SIAL Montreal is putting these products front and forward for the first time, with its “Organic route” featured on the floor plan and aimed at helping the visitors to identify all companies presenting organic products.

Finally, the Bakery Village is designed to highlight the producers offering bread, cookies, pastries, cakes, ingredients and additives, as well as equipment suppliers showcasing their latest trends. This village is presented in association with SET Canada, a must in innovation regarding services, equipment and technologies, which will also be held at Montreal’s Palais des congrès from April 1-3, 2009.

SIAL Montréal is an international professional food tradeshow part of the SIAL network of 4 tradeshows on 4 continents, 7,500 exhibitors from over 100 countries and 200,000 visitors from more than 200 countries. In 2001, the Quebec Food Retailers Association (A.D.A.Q.), the Agri-Food Export Group—Quebec-Canada and the Exposium Group joined forces to create a SIAL that was specific to the North American marketplace; SIAL Montréal was founded, and the exhibition was then held every two years. In 2007, SIAL Montréal became an annual event enabling clients of the exhibition, exhibitors and visitors alike, to stay attuned to the ebb and flow of the market and of prospective business opportunities.
