Description The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina will be offering a workshop on Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic (PBPK) Modeling in Drug Development and Evaluation April 6-10, 2009 at The Westin Alexandria, 400 Courthouse Square, Alexandria, Virginia.

The one-week course will demonstrate how to use state-of-the-art modeling and simulation techniques to assist in candidate selection, accelerate drug development, and improve clinical trials design. It will cover the principles of PBPK modeling and the application of this technique to explore drug kinetics and dynamics. The course features both comprehensive lectures and extensive hands-on computer modeling practice. Attendance will be limited to 40 participants.

Upon completion of this workshop you will be able to:
1) Understand the fundamental concepts underlying physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling.
2) Describe the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination of compounds using mass balance differential equations.
3) Build PBPK models to simulate tissue dosimetry of drugs using Berkeley Madonna®, and Simcyp.
4) Recognize the potential applications of PBPK modeling to accelerate drug development.
