Bioprocess engineering is a discipline responsible for translating life-science discoveries into practical products, processes, or systems for the benefit of human being. Bioprocess engineering continues to adapt technologies, knowledge and principles based on the biological aspects of life. Malaysia is one of the countries rich in biodiversity and indigenious bioresources. Here is a great potential in the production of several bioresource-products such as biomaterial, bioenergy, biofertilizer and biopharmaceutical. This includes the development of new concepts, methods and applications of bioprocess engineering in the production of biomaterials useful to human life. As this field gathers its momentum forward, there is a need to enrich this field with more new ideas, discussion and to review the current trend and issues regarding the field. Applying bioprocess engineering with the most current technologies and innovative ideas would only serve the improvement our standard of living and would also serve the global needs.

University Malaysia Perlis’s (UniMAP) School of Bioprocess Engineering has initiated an international conference, MICOTriBE that aims to integrate information from academicians, researchers and corporate organizations, from all over the globe and develop a strong networking among these groups so as to enhance current broad-based bio-research for global needs. New ideas from fundamental or applied research in various biorelated disciplines will further enrich the future scope of Bioprocess Engineering research at UniMAP. The school plans to conduct this conference once in every two years with the themes varying according to the needs of the times.
