The 26th International Pediatric Association Congress of Pediatrics (IPA 2010) (IPA)
|Event Date/Time: Aug 05, 2010||End Date/Time: Aug 09, 2010|
In 1994, soon after the democratization of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, the first president of our new nation stated, “There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its childrenâ€. Alas, the global plight of children remains a concern to all. As pediatricians, we have a universal bond that unites us in improving the health of children around the globe.
With a mixture of humility and pride, the South African Pediatric Association (SAPA) joins with the International Pediatric Association (IPA) in inviting all members of the International Pediatric Association as well as many other child health professionals and personnel to join us and attend the 26th International Congress of Pediatrics in South Africa in August 2010. This will be the first IPA Congress held in sub-Saharan Africa, and we are pleased that we will be joined in the Congress by our African colleagues from the Union of African Pediatric Societies and Associations.
We promise you a scientific program to fulfill the needs of all our discerning colleagues, with a wide spectrum of the latest information ranging from the most avant-garde science to the priorities facing our least endowed. Occurring just 5 years before the due date of the Millennium Development Goals, with their target of reducing child mortality by two thirds by 2015, this congress will provide crucial insight into vital issues of child health throughout the world.
The venue we have chosen for the 26th Congress is the Sandton Convention Centre (SCC), just north of Johannesburg. The SCC has proved to be a modern and comfortable home for many international conventions. The centre is surrounded by a plethora of hotels which range from grand opulence to good budget establishments. Sandton is situated close to the modern O.R.Tambo Airport, the most convenient destination for international couriers avoiding unnecessary travel connections.
