We have great pleasure in inviting you for the third National Symposium on Frontiers in Biotechnology.
Named after the great national poet Subramanya Bharathiar, the Bharathiar University was established by the Government of Tamilnadu in 1982. The University is enshrined with the motto 'Educate to Elevate'. This University is ranked as the 2nd among top ten universities in India. Our vision is to provide internationally comparable quality higher education to the youth.
The Department of Biotechnology was instituted in the year 1990. It fosters research and development activities in major thrust areas like Enzyme Biotechnology, Molecular Microbiology, Animal Biotechnology, Plant Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Toxicology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics. The department is engaged in various innovative projects in the disciplines mentioned, supported by different agencies like DBT, DST, CSIR, DRDO, UGC, AICTE, DOE, and TNSCST. It also organises PG courses in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering as well as Diploma courses in Advanced Biology and Computational Biology.
Based on the performance of the department over years, it is recognized for financial assistance by DST-FIST and UGC-SAP programmes.
Biotechnology is a fast growing multidisciplinary applied science for human life. The Seminar aims to provide an arena to meet futuristic opportunities in significance. A range of technical sessions, oral presentations and poster presentations will form the core part of the event. In addition an Industry-Institute-Academia interaction is also included to facilitate the career oriented aspirations of youngsters.

DATES AND VENUE
The Symposium will be held during 22 â€“ 24th of July 2009 at the university premises. The University is situated at the backdrop of Maruthamalai Hills in the Western Ghat range, in a sprawling area of about 902 acres, 15kms from Coimbatore city. The city is well connected by air, road and rail to other parts of the country.

Besides a well connected oublic transport facility, a range of taxi at affordable rates is plying in Coimbatore which can be often booked in advance over phone.
WHO CAN ATTEND
Academicians, Scientists, Research scholars, PG students from Universities, Research institutes, Colleges and personnel from Institutes can participate. Besides the seminar will also provide stalls for Industry for corporate category.
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Original contributions of on-going/completed unpublished research work are invited. The participants are requested to submit the abstract as soft copy to the Organizing Secretary through e-mail. The abstract should not exceed 200 words with the name of the presenting author indicated by underlining the name. The abstract should be typed in MS word -Times New Roman with font size of 12 in 1.5 line space. The abstract should give sufficient details of results and scope for discussion to understand the work. Selected abstracts will be considered for oral presentations. Further correspondence will be through e-mail only.
Posters shall be prepared not exceeding 1x1m in size. The best posters presented will be awarded.
SUBMISSION OF FULL PAPERS
Selected abstracts submitted in advance will be requested for full articles towards publishing the proceedings. Besides the proceedings also will be brought with reviews/original articles from distinguished scientists to whom the manuscript will be invited. Detailed instructions for preparing the full papers will be provided to those selected/invited contributors.
The following fees are to be paid by the participants:
Participants can avail early bird registrations upto July 18th. However there are registration even upto July 21 or Spot registration.
Students/Research scholars need to pay Rs.300; 400 and 500 respectively.
Fee for Faculty/ Scientists are Rs.400; 500 and 600
Corporate people can attend with a Registration fee of Rs.1000 or Rs. 1200 and 1500 upto/after July 18 or spot registration respectively.
Provisions are made available for accompanying person @ Rs.200, 300 and 400 respectively.
Registration fee include conference materials and working lunch besides high tea/coffee for both sessions. Student / Research scholars need to register with bonafide certificates for the Head of the department or Guide. Registrations under Faculty/scientists/Corporate category are inclusive of Seminar proceedings.
Registration fee may be sent as Crossed Demand Draft/pay-in-slip in favour of the Organizing Secretary, NSFB, Department of Biotechnology payable at Coimbatore. Besides, the fee can also be paid in the NSFB2009 account in any branch of â€˜Bank of Indiaâ€™. The voucher for the same may be sent along with registration form. Spot registration can be done on cash payment basis.
Based on funding from the sponsors, limited number of travel fellowships will be made available for participants selected for oral presentation.

Accommodation will be arranged on request out side the university campus. Due to limited accommodation at university permises, necessary arrangements will be made for advance enquiries. Guidance will be provided for such people to reach conference venue through all means. However, individual vehicles cannot be arranged by the organizers for such local travel.
PLACES OF INTEREST
Coimbatore is known for industries and educational institutions. Being located amidst the Western Ghats, it is an ideal place to plan for short trips to several dams, sanctuaries, waterfalls besides temples and theme parks. City / Local tours can be arranged for the participants through the University travel desk.
