Description

RISE will be a day of progressive discussion and skill-building about the future of the social work profession. It is an opportunity for social work students and professionals in the New York City area to gather and discuss how the current political and economic climate affects the field.

Taking advantage of a renewed sense of altruism and activism brought about by the recent Presidential election, the conference will address the changing shape of social activism and grassroots funding, as well as broaden the scope of what has traditionally been thought of as social work. The conference is grounded in a 21st century approach to social justice work, which focuses on the challenges of intersectionality and institutional oppression.

As an interdisciplinary conference RISE is a unique learning opportunity for social workers in all stages of their careers. The presenters will be a diverse group of social work academics, professionals, students, as well as professionals from related disciplines, such as law, social activism, and education. By taking an interdisciplinary approach to social work we will develop more effective strategies for the complex challenges that face our clients and the field.
