The principal organizing body for the “Hands Lanka 2009” Handicraft Exhibition is none other than the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) the largest and most representative apex business organization of the Sri Lankan private sector business. The FCCISL is also the most widely spread business organization with member bodies from all districts and provinces of Sri Lanka.

With a nationwide membership of over 55 chambers of Commerce and business associations, FCCISL espouses the shared vision of Sri Lankan businesses and speaks directly and indirectly to over 15,000 large, medium and small segments of manufacturing, distributive trade & services spread both locally and internationally.

FCCISL is also the nodal point for the Sri Lankan chapters of; Confederation of Asia Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI), SAARC Chambers of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) & World Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (WASME) and hence fully equipped to provide leadership to this years’ trade fair, which endeavours to create “Local Handicraft & Global Market” the theme of this prestigious Handicrafts Exhibition.

Sri Lanka is renowned world over for her exquisite handicraft-heritage.This fame was achieved due to the raw materials used found abundant in nature, vivid natural colours, advanced metal & tool technology and divine creativity developed through spiritual superiority of ancient Sri Lankans that have been handed down from generation to generation.

The"Hands Lanka"exhibition, sponsored by Handwerkskammer Koblenz of Germany and organized by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) with the kind cooperation of Chamber of National Handicrafts of Sri Lanka in collaboration with Ministry of Rural Industries, taking place during 9th -12th of October 2008 at the Sri Lanka Exhibition & Conventional Center aiming to support Small & Medium handicraft manufactur­ers, is an open forum to meet expert craftsmanship with national and international high-end admiring clientele.

There, one can experience a range of masterpieces, those are a central part of the Sri Lankan culture, including Woodwork, Metalwork, Lacquerwork, Mat Weaving & Palm Products, Basketry, Coir Products, Pottery, Lacemaking, Rattan Products, and Bamboo Products manufactured following the same authentic procedures.
