With characteristics such as good thermal and chemical stability, good electrical resistance and high biocompatibility through a very wide temperature range, it is no surprise that silicone rubber is valued elastomer. Its applications have previously been limited to places where these properties are mandatory due to its high market value. However, as new products increasingly demand materials with high temperature and environmental resistance, money continues to be invested in developing silicone elastomer materials, compounding ingredients, processing and applications.
Silicone Elastomers 2009 brings together material manufacturers, processors and academics to provide insight into, silicone elastomer materials, applications, testing, additives, fillers and processing. Major material manufacturers such as Dow Corning, Momentive Performance Materials and Bluestar Silicones will talk on silicone elastomer materials and applications. Academics will look at future market trends and new developments in materials such as liquid fluorosilicone rubber, transparent grades, formulation of two-part systems, silicone-urea copolymers, and epoxy silicone blends. Medical and healthcare applications, together with testing migration and antimicrobial performance, and the use of microbial inhibitor are included in this comprehensive conference programme. Developments in fillers, such as carbon nanotubes, fumed silica, quartz, feldspar and siliceous earth are all topics covered. Mixing, straining and extrusion, adhesive bonding and LSR moulding and tooling, are also featured processing developments.
