Description The 8th International Heinz Nixdorf Symposium takes place on April 21-22, 2010. Entitled “Changing Paradigms: Advanced Manufacturing and Sustainable Logistics” new trends and strategies in manufacturing and logistics are of main interest during this prime event of the Heinz Nixdorf Institute. Experts from science and industry will present current challenges of production logistics and related disciplines and will discuss innovative solution approaches.

Manufacturing and logistics undergo changes incurred by the development and implementation of advanced information technologies. Network-wide cooperation is required in order to take advantage of these shifting paradigms. So far, existing potentials such as intra-company knowledge are not adequately tapped. Corporate networks are strengthened by the application of best practices and by sharing their experience with supply chain partners for achieving integral improvements. Ecological awareness influences existing processes by the application of green principles to logistics and supply chain management.

Whilst addressing these new possibilities, the 8th International Heinz Nixdorf Symposium offers an excellent forum for discussion and exchange of experts from manufacturing and logistics companies and representative from academia. It is aimed at experts from business and science, who occupy themselves with the planning and development of manufacturing and logistics systems and thereby also consider changing restrictions, limitations, and demand for sustainability.

The Heinz Nixdorf Symposium is an established biannual event of the Heinz Nixdorf Institute. On April 21, distinguished professors and senior executives from large manufacturing and logistics companies will deliver invited speeches. On April 22, contributions are invited from both researchers and practitioners to any of the following tracks: Production Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research Techniques, Simulation, or Humanitarian Logistics.

Contributions to the tracks of the second day of the conference can be submitted until November 15, 2009. As a professional demanding forum for the discussion of latest research results and current trends, the symposium will be supported by an international programme committee of distinguished experts in the choice of contributions. All accepted contributions will be published in the series “Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing” (LNBIP) of the Springer publishing company.

Further information and details regarding the submission of contributions as well as the Call for Papers are available at http://www.hni.uni-paderborn.de/symposium2010 .
