The School of Business and Economics of the University of Jyväskylä is delighted to invite you to participate in a multidisciplinary Academic Summit on:

Learning clusters as drivers for
• regional development
• entrepreneurship and growth
• innovativeness
• educational co-operation
• socio-economic restructuring
• accumulating and mobilizing social capital

As part of the 12th TCI Annual Global Conference on the theme “Learning Clusters – adapting to the new competitiveness scenario”, the summit will concentrate cross-disciplinarily on academic aspects of learning clusters.

Conference topics:

What is the role of learning clusters as drivers of regional development? How can learning clusters enhance competitiveness? How do learning clusters contribute to entrepreneurship, innovativeness and growth? Do learning clusters facilitate educational co-operation? Can this development provide an answer to the challenges of socio-economic restructuring and the ongoing financial crisis?

Papers from various disciplines – both theoretical and empirical - are highly encouraged. The summit will bring together many distinguished researchers and practitioners from all over the world. Participants will have an excellent opportunity to present new research, exchange information and discuss current issues.

The programme:

Monday 12th October: Cluster tours will highlight the specialties of Finnish cluster development. These tours will present the specializations and success stories but also the challenges of a given cluster or centre of expertise. Participants will have the chance to choose a tour from several options according to their area of interest.

Tuesday 13th October: Keynote lectures by Professor Charlie Karlsson (Jönköping International Business School) and Dr. Jukka Teräs (Managing Director and owner of Norrum Oy), parallel sessions and the opening ceremony of the 12th TCI Annual Global Conference.

NEW Deadline for the submission of papers: 31st August, 2009, by when the papers should be sent, preferably in PDF format, to: tci-academic-summit@jyu.fi
Preference will be given to completed papers.

Chair of the Scientific Committee: Professor Matti Koiranen, University of Jyväskylä
