Description
very volatile and complicated marine risks, hence making the risks underwriting so much more difficult.
Risk exposures such as piracy, hijack, climate changes, collisions, war have caused the claims costs
to increase substantially. Surprisingly, at the same time the insurers are pressured to undercut the
premium as the market competition becomes so intense. This unavoidably induce the insurers to
compromise on risk-taking too much, which endangering the insurer, especially those with limited
reserve to bear any catastrophic financial losses.
Against this backdrop, the theme “Managing new risks and increasing performance for sustainabilityâ€
is chosen. What are the new risks await marine insurance industry? Are they foreseeable and predictable?
Are they manageable? How the market players should response to these challenges? How to manage
profitability and acquire growth under external pressures which are beyond the insurer's control?
Is this possible? Should the insurers be conservative or aggressive to underwrite marine risks?
This conference aim at discussing the critical issues and concern relating to market
development, legal & regulations, underwriting, claims, risk management, reinsurance,
insurance buyers, capacity and many others, which will be addressed by the marine insurance experts.
