For the last 10 years, the International Workshop on Adverse Drug Reactions and Lipodystrophy in HIV has served very successfully as an arena for the presentation of new scientific data in the field of metabolic complications, lipodystrophy, and other adverse events. Today, the need for continued discussion and sharing of scientific data for HIV-infected individuals remains. In fact, the challenge may be even greater with the increased number of therapeutic agents available and the improved efficacy of therapy leading to life long exposure to a series of regimens. While the meeting was conceived in response to the appearance of lipodystrophy and metabolic complications with HAART, over the years our focus has expanded to include a number of other important co-morbidities. These include liver, bone, and renal disease, cancers, and neurological complications, which are occurring as a result of the complex interplay of host, disease, and drug factors.
