Industry Snapshot
 The rapid economic growth in China has remarkably accelerated the development of China’s
electric power industry. By the end of 2008, China’s total power installed capacity reached 790 million kilowatts and was ranked second in the world. According to the International Energy Agency, China’s power consumption will double and its power generation capacity will reach 1775 gigawatts by 2030. The power transmission and distribution industry is also expected to grow. By 2030, investment in China’s power generation, transmission and distribution will reach US$ 2.8 trillion, accounting for a quarter of the world’s total investment.

 China’s State Grid Corporation has announced a plan to build a ‘Smart Grid’ with more than 4 trillion
RMB investment and the construction will start this year in three stages. The plan reveals that China has involved in the global power reform and Smart Grid has become the focus of the whole energy industry.
