AeRC is an organization championing ICT for development capacity development initiatives in the region through knowledge sharing and skills development programmes. GIS Global Systems established in 2000 is a South African based company that focuses on all aspects of GIS, and related applications including training.
The objectivee of the three-day workshop will be to guide attendees through a systematic process in understanding:

â€¢ The information and knowledge environment organisations and business operate in
â€¢ An introduction to Geographical Information Systems (GIS);
â€¢ GIS data formats, software and concepts
â€¢ GIS data analysis â€“ database and spatial data analysis
â€¢ Practical, hands-on GIS problem solving, by making use of Free and Open Source GIS Software.
The workshop will be conducted in both plenary and group session with participants taking hands-on activities and will include GIS applications site visit at one of Cape Town Municipalities. The Faculty for the workshop will be led by Nico Elema, CEO, GIS Global Image (PTY) Ltd, (www.globalimage.co.za), based in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Nico Elema has been in the GIS industry experience of over 12 years and today is a specialist GIS and the development of Information Management Policies, that assists Organisations in managing and distributing information in a responsible manner. Nico is also currently perusing a PHD in Information Systems at the University of Western Cape, South Africa.
The registration fee for the workshop is US$ 1,850 which will cover the accommodation 4 nights, airport pickups, travel logistic with in Cape Town, documentation, administration and meals during the workshop period.
