This event will look at the evolution of law firm libraries in the context of a difficult economic environment and the impact this is having on library and information services budget, resources and supplier negotiation. It will consider ways to make cost and efficiency savings through strategies like outsourcing and will also consider the changing information environment, in particular in an environment in which there are more online and virtual information resources and in which tools like Google make free web search available for all. One question is what will the librarian’s role become in such an environment? Fundamentally, this event looks at the role of the librarian/information service professional as a key player in the law firm, someone who takes on a hybrid role including marketing and IT skills, has an improved profile in the organisation and collaborates effectively with other departments.
