Multimedia system comprises of system level aspects that underpin digital media, including multimedia networks, wireless communication, middleware, signal processing, signal video and image compression and distributed system. Interactive Digital Multimedia involves a range of technologies and applications centered on the creation, encoding, transmission, storage, presentation, and analysis of multimedia data, as well as the study of human interaction with multimedia systems. There are numerous applications of interactive multimedia in learning, communication, medicine, arts and entertainment, and other areas. A multidisciplinary approach is essential to adequately prepare future generations of educators, researchers, policy makers, and practitioners in this broad environment.
The convergence of digital media, computing and communication has created new and exciting opportunities in science, engineering and the arts. Interactive digital multimedia involves a range of technologies and applications centered on creation, encoding, transmission, storage, presentation and analysis of multimedia data, as well as the study of human interaction with multimedia systems. Currently the retrieval of massive multimedia data brought in technical challenge in terms of its retrieval and other related aspects. In this context the subject of Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) plays a major role.
Image and video storage and retrieval continue to be one of the most exciting and fastest-growing research areas in the field of multimedia technology. However, opportunities for the exchange of ideas between different groups of researchers, and between researchers and potential users of image/video retrieval systems, are still limited. The International Conference on Content Based Image Retrieval (ICMCBIR-2010) is intended to expose the state of the art in multi media database and image retrieval between researchers and practitioners throughout the world. This conference aims to provide an international forum for the discussion of challenges in the fields of multi media database and image retrieval.
About PES Institute of Technology
PESIT was started in 1988 as the first engineering college under the PES group of institutions. Its vision has been to make its students professionally superior and ethically strong global manpower. Every activity at PES is focused in addressing student needs. It offers and facilitates academic excellence, leadership qualities, nurturing environment, and cutting edge infrastructure - everything students need to succeed. A unique educational system at PES will ensure that students gain not just depth and breath in their chosen area of specialization, but a holistic set of skills that will equip them to face the real world. Opportunities abound for them to expand the boundaries of their performance and acco mplishment. The thriving and vibrant campus life accommodates diverse and enthusiastic student community. A team of dedicated and experienced faculty with research bent of mind has been driving the institution towards excellence in R&D activities. The results have been consistently excellent, consistently obtaining university ranks. PESIT alumni have occupied high positions in premier organizations in India and abroad. PESIT is about always trying to push the bar a little more, constantly innovating and never standing still. If one has the drive and determination, PESIT will help realize one's dream.
With the wide spread use of internet technology for day to day application it has become imperative to use optimal retrieval technologies like CBIR as applied to conventional as well as multimedia data. The explosive growth of data generation calls for utility of these technologies in various domains. The vistas thrown upon in the application of these areas calls for focused attention in Biometrics, Digital Image Processing, Medical Imaging, Remote Sensing, Telecommunication and Web Mining. This conference will address these issues in the emerging scenario available to us.
