Description The IEC - Department of Energy Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering at TU Bergakademie Freiberg present in collaboration with the Institute of Technical Chemistry at TU Bergakademie Freiberg and the Institute of Power Engineering, Chair of Hydrogen and Nuclear Energy at TU Dresden the 4th International Freiberg Conference on IGCC & XtL Technologies in Dresden/Saxony, Germany from 3rd to 5th May 2010. The Freiberg Conference will be held at the Hilton Hotel Dresden.

Saxony and the neighbouring regions have a long tradition in the development of gasification of brown coal, waste and biomass. The first Winkler gasifier and the first pressurized coal gasifier were in operation here. Today, this region continues to be a technology centre for the gasification of fossil fuels and renewable energy resources. Gasification and gas treatment are the key processes for near-zero emission power plants on the basis of IGCC technology as well as for the syntheses for liquid chemicals and transportation fuels from coal, natural gas or biomass (Coal, Gas, Biomass to Liquids - XtL). These common elements provide the possibility to use synergy effects for the benefit of both technology routes and their development.

The aim of the conference is to contribute to that development. The focus of the conference is on IGCC and XtL concepts, on the state-of-the-art and on ongoing activities for commercializing of these technologies.
Technologies for the sustainable use of coal provide opportunities to meet the important challenges of our energy future. This forthcoming event will address the wide range of thermo-chemical carbon feedstock conversion issues and will provide a high-level forum for exchange of information and expertise. Studies, current projects and operational experiences regarding IGCC and XtL technologies shall be presented, focusing on

•Gasification technology development/co-gasification,
•Underground gasification,
•Nuclear high temperature process heat for coal gasification,
•Fuel preparation and upgrading for gasification,
•Synthesis gas treatment,
•Combined cycle and gas turbine developments,
•Progress in synthesis technologies and synthesis gas applications,
•Carbon dioxide capture und storage,
•Entire concept evaluations.
At the most senior level we shall address strategic and political considerations to promote and advance clean coal technology. Keynote speakers will provide surveys on the latest trends for strategic orientation. The Conference Programme will include an interesting social programme and relevant technical tours.
