| Description |
Depressive disorders and epilepsy are two conditions that are very closely related. Not surprisingly, depressive disorders are the most frequent psychiatric comorbidity in patients with epilepsy. The impact of depressive disorders is multidimensional, including an association with a worse response to pharmacologic and surgical treatment of the seizure disorder. The purpose of this conference is to review in detail the various aspects of the close relationship between these two conditions, starting from an analysis of available neurobiologic data and including both theoretical implications and practical clinical applications.
