| Description |
This international scientific conference aims to bring together researchers and engineers from European universities, R&D laboratories, water agencies, governmental delegates, private companies involved in the management of sewage sludge. As the environmental regulations became stricter, the production of sewage sludge increased continuously in the last decade. This growth is particularly important in those countries, which joined the EU in the last
two rounds of accession. The new member states in Central and Eastern Europe have set out their National Strategies on Waste Water Treatment for 2010-2020 on the development
of waste water treatment facilities to meet the European requirements on waste water treatment. These requirements raise problems in this region. As the disposal of waste without
pre-treatment is prohibited, the importance of energy recovery and spreading on land have increased. The purpose of the conference is to share experience made in old member states with the new members of the EU and to show the innovative technologies for sewage sludge treatment. These could provide guidance on solving the EU and, more importantly, CEE problems. This is the reason to delegate the successful ECSM conference from Liége to Budapest, Hungary.
During the sewage sludge treatment it is important to take into considerations the effects on climate change. One of the objectives of the conference is to raise awareness of the best technologies allowing to minimize GHG emissions related to sludge management.
