The word Biotechnology is derived from two words i.e. Biology and Technology. Biology means the study of living entities and Technology means processing. Therefore, biotechnology may be defined as “The application of scientific and engineering principles for the processing of materials by biological agents to provide goods and services to humankind”.
It’s not a new field of biology and from ancient times (5000 B.C.), human prepares wine, vinegar curd, etc. by using different forms of microorganisms without having any knowledge of microbes / biology and their processing procedures. Now a day, every person knows about plants, animals, other living organisms and also acquainted with their use in the different fields i.e. medicine, pharmaceutical, research etc.
Biotechnology is a very fascinating field of science, which has vast scope in different fields i.e. medical, pharmaceutical industries, agricultural (base of India), food industries, research & development and others where the microbes or living organisms are involved during processing in any form.
DAMS feel immense pleasure by providing a podium / platform to eminent scientists / faculties / students for interaction and amalgamation of minds with various scientists / researchers / graduate and undergraduate students belonging to different fields / streams of science and share their views and ideas to develop new strategies for the growth of science (biotechnology) in our nation.

Scientific events:
It includes plenary lectures of invited speakers / oral presentation by scientists, researchers and students and poster presentation for the students (research scholars / PG / UG) to know more about the gigantic field of biotechnology. The duration of student’s oral presentation will be of 10 minutes and 5 minutes for questioning round.
1 x 1 meter space will be provided for posters display.
Guidelines for the abstract / papers submission:
The participants, who are interested for the Paper / Poster presentation, can submit their abstract either by post or by e-mail at dams.biotech08@gmail.com. The abstract should not exceed 250 words and full paper more than 3000 words. The text should be typed in MS word format at 12 font size Times New Roman with single space. Two hard copies along with a CD (mention the name and title of the paper / abstract on the CD) / soft copy by e-mail should be submitted to Department of Biotechnology, Dayanand Academy of Management Studies (DAMS), Govind Nagar, Kanpur (UP), INDIA on or before the date 14/02/2010.
