in Portingalia. . . trans Neptunum: English and Portuguese in exchange (1100-1500) - a one-day works (English and Portugue)
Venue: St John\'s College
|Event Date/Time: May 28, 2010|
This one-day workshop will consider such intermittent and specific contacts in their role as stepping-stones that ran along and interacted with an ongoing liaison between regions and peoples. We will try to look at this long-standing relation as a dynamic and everyday process in order to consider ideas of exchange and contact in this period.
Papers will consider the Anglo-Iberian experience, falling into two general topics - ‘Individuals at intersections’ and ‘Space and Society’. Discussion will focus on the implications of these issues on notions of transmission and exchange, and should be of interest to all those concerned with forms of communication and interaction across the medieval spectrum.
