The Tourism industry has evolved over the years contributing to both economic and social development. Modernisation has resulted in an increase in the movement of goods, capital, people, and information beyond the geographical boundary and obviously globalisation has been a catalyst for the process of modernisation in various aspects of the tourism, hospitality and gastronomy industries. Modernisation together with the shifting trend in the profile of tourists demands a transformation in the industry as a whole. In accordance with the transformation, the businesses related to these industries need to align people, processes and technology initiatives more closely with its vision to support and help innovate new strategies and meet short term and long term objectives. Transformation in the industry can be achieved through new technology, business models and management practices. At this point in time, transformation and modernisation are essential to remain competitive both within the industry and also between industries. There are many issues related to modernisation and transformation that need to be debated to help us arrive at a better understanding of the industry as a whole.
In order to broaden the scope of research into these areas the current theme of the present conference is “Transformation and Modernisation in Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomyâ€. It fosters a reflection on the different concepts of transformation and modernisation, to better understand the present needs and directions of the tourism, hospitality and gastronomy sectors. The conference aims to provide a platform for for practitioners, researchers and academics to present and discuss their research outcomes in the area of tourism, hospitality and gastronomy.
The conference will showcase perspectives from East and West, and any collaborative efforts made in the transformation and modernisation of the tourism, hospitality and food industry are welcomed. People with of all perspectives need to come together to gain an understanding of real-world theories, processes and models to elaborate and discuss the transformation and modernisation of the tourism, hospitality and gastronomy industries.
Hence, Taylor’s University College School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts and the University of Toulouse (Université de Toulouse de Mirail) recognise the need to discuss the current theme, and to keep abreast of the current trends in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy. Therefore, we are pleased to announce the 3rd Asia-Euro Tourism, Hospitality & Gastronomy Conference 2010 to be held in Subang, Jaya, Malaysia and welcome all delegates.
