Education Week 2010 will create a platform for education stakeholders from across the African continent to come together and discuss how to improve quality of and access to education. This event will bring together representatives from: Education ministries, schools, teacher unions, universities, FET colleges, research institutions, NPOs, educational publishers, e-learning providers as well as other suppliers to the sector.

The conference will feature three tracks, focusing on basic education, further and higher education, and education technologies. This year it has the potential to attract a wider audience, with greater emphasis on higher education institutions and FET colleges, as well as participants with a specific technology and e-learning focus from across the various sectors. Recent changes within the Department of Education, specifically the split into Basic and Higher Education, and the shift of certain roles and responsibilities from the Department of Labour to the Department of Higher Education, have given rise to a number of new policy and strategy documents, and Education Week will provide delegates with an opportunity to find out how these changes will affect them. This is the ideal time to host an event that brings together the various “silos” within which the Department traditionally operated and gives clarity on how the structural changes, policy revisions and forward strategies will affect the various stakeholders within the education sector.
