Innovation is a continual process of creative destruction where unproductive and irrelevant ideas, systems and mechanisms are replaced by new more productive ones. The process of innovation is not always painless as individually all innovations are not necessarily successful but collectively it is the process of innovations that leads us ahead in the path of progress. Recently we have seen this process of creative destruction at work more closely in the financial sector. The business environment across the globe has been witnessing an unprecedented turmoil over the last couple of years. Many financial institutions, corporations and global economies which have been foundations of the global markets and financial structure have collapsed or are surviving on life support systems. Financial innovations are most often blamed for most of the recent financial crises. However, we cannot think of the progress without innovation. We need innovation but we need to think how to make this process less painful.

We have the challenge before us to revamp the global financial system to make it more robust to face the future shocks basically originating from human greed and fear, to make it more efficient in allocation of resources in more productive way and more inclusive to serve those who are still un-served. The process of change is going on in every spare of financial system – financial institutions and their regulations, financial markets, corporate governance, legislations, accounting and auditing, naming a few. At this juncture we need to be more innovative and creative – but our innovations should lead us to progress rather than destructions. With this backdrop, FINCON intends to provide a platform to academicians, practitioner and policy makers to exchange their views and to come out with innovative ideas and solutions.
