A very common analogy of the concept of wellness could be explained through this simple sentence; “Healthy lifestyle prevents diseases and a contented mind makes us easily laughing and happiness pervades our environment”. Waking up early in the morning after an adequate amount of sleep is probably a very simple act of “wellness” philosophy. However trying to maintain “a balanced diet regularly for a full 30 days of each month” is a very difficult advice to practice especially if the university student, lecturers and also our participants take their meal out of the full comfort of their home.

This Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin Conference on Wellness 2010 has been planned carefully since the last one year to be the summit of the medical and health sciences faculty wellness programmes. Speakers of distinction from various disciplines are invited to share with us in Terengganu their previous experience in walking the talk of this “wellness” paradigm. This is will further be complemented with other activities such as exhibitions of health equipments, specialized health and medical instruments, health screening, fitness testing, optimal exercise method, introduction of healthy eating habit and weight management programmes to achieve the objectives of the conference.

This conference is also an opportunity for academic staff, researchers, exhibitors, as well as students from various fields of medical and health sciences to learn as well as share expectations, expertise and skills in their respective fields. This could further enhance greater cooperation and collaboration among the involved personnel. Do move around to various exciting and interesting tourist destinations in Terengganu and its islands. It is also not just appropriate to try the taste of the Terengganu food and delicacies without sampling our own “UCW home-made “nasi dagang”, “keropok lekor” and “bubur lambuk”. This “dietitian culinary modification” is supposed to decrease the high number of emerging chronic diseases in Terengganu in line with the theme of the conference; “Healthy Lifestyle: A Global Perspective”.
